Before investing in property in Minnesota, you’ll want to know the ins and outs of your daily commute. Do you want property in the city, in the suburbs or in a rural area? Plans for the development of the Minnesota Light Rail System are in the works, and many Minnesota real estate agents are recommending property in the suburbs.

A light rail system is an electric rail car system that generally operates small trains, as will be the case in Minnesota. The trains are powered by a wiring system located over the top of the train cars. Light rail transit, also known as LRT for short, is an efficient and dependable mode of transport. The trains are even able to run in the middle of streets originally designed for automotive use.

The central corridor of the Minnesota Light Rail system will directly connect Minneapolis with St. Paul. Over 20 stations are planned along the central corridor route between the two cities. It is a part of the Metropolitan Council’s 2030 plan to improve mobility between the two cities and their adjacent suburbs.

The Minnesota Light Rail will greatly benefit local real estate. By connecting many of the state’s major cities, the Minnesota Light Rail will help suburban areas grow in size and value. More people can work downtown but live outside of the city. The Minnesota Light Rail makes the commute affordable and makes Minnesota properties outside of major cities a great idea.

With highly fluctuating gas prices and a collapsing automobile industry, public transportation is increasingly important. In the past, you could find a Minnesota real estate agent to help you get a great property, but the commute was too expensive. The Light Rail System will provide a quick way in and out of the city, and the suburbs will be even more enticing for business commuters looking to raise their children.

Minnesota properties, especially those just outside of the Twin Cities, are a great option for families. The suburbs provide a more relaxed atmosphere for family time. During the weekend you can hop on the Light Rail into Minneapolis and enjoy the sights. Take your kids to some of the city’s kid-friendly attractions or take your spouse out for a romantic dinner at one of the city’s fine restaurants. When you’re ready to return home, just hop on the Light Rail and travel back to the suburbs. It’s a quick and convenient way to travel.

As more suburban areas develop along the line’s route, the options increase. You may find yourself owning valuable real estate in a new hot spot. A reputable Minnesota real estate agent can provide insight about developing areas.

The Light Rail System is the future of Minnesota transit. Talk to an experienced agent to determine the residential area that best fits your needs. They can advise you and help you find a great home that is sure to increase in value over the years as the areas between Minneapolis and St. Paul continue to expand.

Another Light Rail line is planned to service the University of Minnesota campus. This line will run along Washington and University Avenues to both Minneapolis and St. Paul. The areas surrounding this line are also expected to grow, so you may want to look at property in one of these up and coming areas.

As public transportation continues to grow, real estate in the suburbs of the Twin Cities will increase in popularity. Now is a great time to find the perfect home for your family with easy access to both Minneapolis and St. Paul. You’ll enjoy the best of both worlds, whether it’s the easy pace of the suburbs or the fast action of the city.
